Project Description

Black Box is a short documentary project  Logline:  When immigration detention removes people from public view, Black Box makes the invisible visible, following protests, expert voices, and personal testimony to expose the systems surrounding the Northwest Detention Center - and their lasting impact on individuals, families, and communities. Vision Statement: Much of what we know about immigration detention comes from headlines, what can be captured on phones, what happens out in the open; what is visible. Detention centers are often portrayed as temporary holding spaces where individuals await a trial date before being deported or released. But it’s not that clean or simple, and there is very limited access to what happens once people are detained and removed from visibility. This documentary aims to illuminate what occurs beyond that point of disappearance. With this project, our goal is to: 1. Provide exposure on what happens inside the NWDC 2. Explain the systems in place that restrict access, contact, oversight, and accountability. 3. Portray the effect that these systems have on real individuals, families, and communities.
