Project Description

This project is a Case Study, which will be submitted to the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS) by the end of this quarter. During clinical hours in the Fall Quarter of 2024, this project required my choosing of a patient and their pathology to be the case that I would study and research. Once the patient and pathology was chosen, I was required to create a powerpoint and present it to my peers. This assignment was then detailed and researched further in depth during the Winter Quarter of 2024, in which I then re-presented to the class. From this final powerpoint, I created an outline for my case study writeup and, in this current Spring Quarter, presented my first draft to the class, received feedback from multiple students and staff members, and completed my final draft for submission to the JDMS. All my research was exclusively done through the Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons online Database A-Z. This project required 8 scientific journal resources, in which I found on CINAHL, ClinicalKey, and PubMed. This project was designed, not only to inform others of important cases and potential outcomes, but to identify possible ethical dilemmas within the medical field and advocate for equitable solutions. Overall, my project portrays the importance of quality diagnostic cardiac ultrasonography, details patient demographics and pathological circumstances, acknowledges the importance of proper medical intervention, and advocates for additional intervention that is proven to lower specific complication rates.
