Description
The homelessness crisis has been developing and increasing in the United States urban areas, prompting concerted efforts by policymakers to devise amicable solutions. The homelessness crisis in Seattle is tragic and needs urgent redress. The efforts of the local government witnessed the establishment of the Homelessness Outreach and Provider Ecosystem (HOPE) Team. This team coordinates the city department and the community together with the outreach and shelter providers, aimed at helping the homeless people in the city. However, the efforts have failed to address homelessness in the city. Seattle is the city currently implementing a policy formulated to address homelessness. This policy takes a person-centered service model, addresses racial disparities, and invests in programs that can connect people to adequate housing. However, the current policy has also been ineffective. It is determined that the homelessness crisis in Seattle is increasing substance abuse, and causing health issues to the homeless, but regardless of the failing policies, it is solvable. Through a coordinated system approach, this crisis can be averted. Also, adopting rapid re-housing and permanent supportive housing programs can help reduce homelessness in Seattle. Therefore, homelessness is solvable, regardless of the failing policies.
