Description

Systemic racism in healthcare is a huge problem that needs to be addressed. The main healthcare issues are systemic racism and how people of color are treated in the healthcare system. People of color are at a higher risk of getting diseases and being mistreated while receiving healthcare. The causes contributing to this problem are white complicity in remaining silent in the face of racism, the teachings in medical programs, and how healthcare professionals treat and care for people of color.

In this presentation, Lekasia will talk about her experience in the healthcare system, explain the history of how people of color are treated while in the care of medical professionals, and some causes of systemic racism in the healthcare system. Then, she will share some solutions on how the healthcare system can improve how people of color are treated, and she will end with how incivility comes into play with this problem.
