Paul A. Volpe Scrapbook (University History)

For the 75th anniversary of the Albers School of Business & Economics in 2022, the Volpe family gifted Seattle University this commemorative scrapbook honoring their father, Paul A. Volpe, founding Dean, 1947-1965.

Volpe was revered for his energy and vision in building the Albers School of Business & Economics. He also served in advisory posts for the State of Washington and was chosen one of 100 “Newsmakers of the Future” by Time Magazine (1953). His legacy is revealed in both this scrapbook and its accompanying archival materials, including biographical material, correspondence, photographs, letters, speeches, news clippings, and writings.

The bulk of the collection focuses on the annual Commerce Club banquet and the Economic Statesmanship Award (1956-1962), honoring nationally recognized, outstanding business statesmen including, among others, William E. Boeing, Sr. (Boeing Aircraft); S. Clark Biese (Bank of America); Walter Dillingham (Hawaii Land Construction); James D. Zellerbach (Crown Zellerbach Paper); William A. Patterson (United Airlines); and T.S. Peterson (Standard Oil).

The file containing the full text of this scrapbook is very large and may take a significant amount of time to download. The scrapbook may also be downloaded as a series of smaller files, which are recommended for slower internet connections.
