The Imagining the World photo competition came from a 2007 Global Initiative designed to promote and grow the College of Arts & Sciences' international engagement as a college committed to a more just and humane world. The first competition happened 2009-10, covering photos from study abroad experiences of 2008-09. The program was hosted in the College of Arts & Sciences but open to all Seattle University students who took photos on their study abroad trips, growing to include the abroad experiences of international students here in the United States and later adding a faculty abroad photo competition.
