Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to propose a model that depicts a relationship between cultural values and individual health practices of Filipino immigrants using Leininger's Culture Care Theory. A family nurse practitioner who applies the model would be sensitive to expressions of care of diverse groups. Application of the model requires a paradigm shift in thinking before healthcare providers can begin to engage patients to be responsible for their health care. This shift is necessary to learn how diverse groups identify self, family, and community. The proposed model reveals unique patterns of caring expressed by Filipino immigrants. The goal of the model is to provide a framework for healthcare practitioners who care for Filipino immigrants with TB in order to increase their adherence to treatment and to promote well-being.
