Founded in 1971 by University of Washington Drama department graduates, under director M. Burke Walker, the Empty Space Theatre's first home was in the Pike Place Market, moving to Capitol Hill, Pioneer Square, and Fremont before affiliating with Seattle University. It ceased operation in 2006.
