Abstract
Aortic dissection is a deadly condition where the layers of the aorta tear apart, often causing sharp pain and a lack of blood flow to vital organs. A 55-year-old male presented with worsening shortness of breath, dyspnea on exertion, and peripheral edema. A transthoracic echocardiogram and computed tomography angiogram were performed and uncovered an ascending aortic aneurysm and a combined Stanford A and B aortic dissection. The patient was rushed into emergency surgery where a Bio-Bentall Procedure was performed. Due to lack of insurance, the patient put off receiving medical aid causing his condition to progress for the worse. Improved patient education regarding financial assistance and symptom recognition may have reduced delays in diagnosis and treatment.
