Abstract
In a constantly evolving environment, it is essential that student affairs professionals continually reflect on the impact they have on higher education, and more specifically the impact that have on individual students. It is through such reflection that one is able to develop his or her education philosophy. This paper will first discuss the nature of education, including its purpose and the purpose of student affairs in higher education. Second, this paper will discuss the role of the educator, including the contribution of the student affairs educator and student affairs educators in contrast to the academy. Finally, this paper will discuss professional practice for student affairs educators, including reaching the individual student, helping students with personal development, facilitating life-long learning, and crisis management.
