Abstract

This paper exams the need for a Transgender Resource Center on college campuses. As a result of the on-going discrimination and isolation many transgender students report, this paper provides one option for student development professionals to address the needs of this population. Detailed analysis of the challenges transgen- der students face, such as access to health facilities, study abroad, gender segregated housing and bathrooms, is presented. Gender identity development and discourse is examined and assessment of theory and student needs are presented. A comprehensive descrip- tion of a transgender resource center is suggested as a way to make college campuses more inclusive of this population.
