Abstract
This article analyzes the budget situation at a fictional state comprehensive college, as detailed by NACUBO’s Leading in Tough Times Workbook. The scenario includes public optics factors, including scrutiny of the school’s fiscal circumstances by local pundits, and a controversial celebrity guest entertainer scheduled by students to appear on campus. The author recommends a crisis communication approach that includes a public relations campaign, cautious evaluation of the pundit’s claims that takes politicized interpretations of resource use into account, and an internal audit of budget use.
