Abstract

Seattle University boasts a diverse student body, filled with a myriad of perspectives, backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. The institution also places value on serving and supporting these various groups through a range of programs and initiatives. For the Black community, Moral Mondays at SU is an active Black Lives Matter initiative which was founded in 2014 by former staff member and alumnus Tyrone Brown. Since its inception, programming under this initiative has explored, critically analyzed, and highlighted Black experiences, history, and culture in the United States and at Seattle University. Inspired by recent declines in attendance at Moral Mondays at SU programs, a need arose to better understand the experience of this student population and uncover ways that the institution could better reach them. Through analysis of the Black student experience, this study seeks to provide insight to help university officials improve services for this population.
