The original 1933 Volunteer Park art deco building of the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) was reopened as the Seattle Asian Art Museum (SAAM) in 1994, focusing on the museum’s Asian collections, special exhibitions, and related programs, with SAM’s main collections located in the museum’s downtown facility. Additional renovations and expansion of SAAM occurred in 2017.
