Abstract
This paper analyzes two popular North American television shows, Deaf U and Gossip Girl in the context of 6 different student development theories (3 per television show). This paper also explores common themes between the television shows, as well as critiques of the student development theories and critiques of the television shows. Towards the end of the paper, the author evaluates her own development according to the 6 different student development theories, offers insight into how popular media can impact youth's perception of college given her experience as a first-generation college student, and key considerations for student affairs professionals.
