Abstract
This paper addresses the challenge that student affairs professionals face in adopting technology and assessment in the highly personalized and individualized work of campus Care Teams tasked with case management for students at their institutions. Through review of the current literature on technology’s impact on case management and interviews with student affairs professionals at five small, private, four-year institutions, this paper explores the ways that practitioners navigate the seemingly contradictory forces of technology and intentional care. Finally, the paper presents brief recommendations for practitioners who are seeking to maximize the strengths of case management guided and supported by technology.
