Abstract
Tacoma Fire Department identified the Vintage at Tacoma senior living apartment complex as a high utilizer of 9-1-1 services, in both emergent situations and non, with 257 calls made in 2016. Seattle University College of Nursing graduate students were invited to take part in a clinical experience to reduce 9-1-1 call volume through use of the Lean A3 process. The resulting intervention was a 6-week chronic disease self-management program focusing on behavioral aspects of motivation in a lower income, independent, older adult population. Preliminary results during and post intervention show a reduction in call volume from previous years and an opportunity for further work in this area.
