Abstract

Anal dysplasia and anal intrepithelial carcinoma are an often under-reported and misdiagnosed condition that requires further attention and diligence by healthcare providers. Research shows that incidence of anal cancer has risen exponentially in the past three decades. However, many primary practitioners have failed to address the problem in a correct manner. Lack of knowledge and comfort in this area has greatly contributed to this emerging public health concern. Further contributions include lack of patient education, no national recommendations for screening, and concomitant factors such as infection with HPV and/or a positive HIV status.
