Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to raise the awareness of the overwhelming problem of the young adult without healthcare insurance. Medically disenfranchised young adults, ages 19 to 29, are those who are uninsured for reasons such as graduating from high school or college; becoming ineligible for coverage under their parent's employer's plans; working for an employer who does not offer health insurance benefits; or being unable to afford health insurance premiums. The end result is that young adults with health insurance have an advantage of access to medical care over those who are without health insurance coverage. Case studies of young adults without healthcare insurance coverage will be presented.
